P and IDs, Pipe Sizing, Piping Layouts and Isometrics

Introduction

The aim of this course is to provide the participants understanding of the design principles in Piping Systems. It provides a foundation of knowledge necessary for those responsible for piping layout engineering, design optimization, and operations of piping systems. The course emphasizes the considerations in keeping the pipe operating costs as low as possible by optimizing piping layout and dimensions. This course will be of interest to everyone working in any plant where piping is present, be it Refinery, Chemical, Petrochemical, Power, Utility, etc. It shall introduce engineers, designers, and construction personnel to the various procedures involved in the development and engineering of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P & IDs), equipment plot plans, piping arrangements, and fabrication drawings. This will include pipe sizing, pressure drop calculations, pump and equipment sizing and selection, preparation of equipment specifications and drawings, piping specifications, isometrics including valves and fittings, piping hangers and supports.

Objectives

    • To know terminology and symbols used in piping layout
    • To understand the basic concepts in piping design, P & IDs, pipe sizing, piping layouts, and isometrics
    • To understand plant layout, plot plan and design of piping systems for the safe and dependable and cost-effective manner
    • To learn the techniques and procedures used in the design and engineering of complex process piping, including the use of codes and standards
    • Preparation of engineering documents (bill of materials, equipment specifications, etc) and drawings Plant layout optimization, Know the use of CEASAR II in piping design and understand piping isometrics

Training Methodology

This is an interactive course. There will be open question and answer sessions, regular group exercises and activities, videos, case studies, and presentations on best practice. Participants will have the opportunity to share with the facilitator and other participants on what works well and not so well for them, as well as work on issues from their own organizations. The online course is conducted online using MS-Teams/ClickMeeting.

Who Should Attend?

This course provides an overview of all significant aspects and considerations of piping for those who are involved in the design, analysis, and operation of piping systems. Managers, engineers, supervisors, and plant operation personnel who work in the Refineries, petrochemical plants, and other process industries will find this course immensely useful to broaden and update their knowledge and also for engineers, designers, CAD operators, and draftspersons in the piping field.
